2011: A Magic: The Gathering Odyssey

So my colleague Cody Brush and I have decided once again to endeavor to try our hand at professional Magic later in the school year.  We have our eyes set on the Pro Tour Qualifier circuit for Pro Tour Nagoya, mainly because the Qualifier format is Extended.  While neither of us is terribly excited about the high costs associated with putting together a viable Extended deck these days, we reached a consensus on that being the most fun and interesting format to dig into.

This is going to be an ordeal, involving lots of tweaking, testing and studying of the format, which is going to change come October when Scars of Mirrodin is released (A pre-release/release event we WILL be attending and writing about, by the way).  While it might seem foolhardy to start testing a format we know is going to rotate, we’re trying to put together an all-around competitive deck to compete in what promises to be a wide-open metagame field.  So, we’re getting as early a start as possible.

We’ll be bringing you our testing information, decklists and metagame analysis as we develop it, so stay tuned to The Community if you’re thinking of making your own run at PT Nagoya, or you’re just interested in the process!

To start with, here’s a decklist we collaborated on.  It is as of yet completely untested, that will start later in the week.
