MTG Odyssey Continued 9/17/2010

It was a slow week of Extended playtesting for Cody and I, as we were only able to crank out about 25 games since my first post on the subject.  Of course nothing can be set in stone after 25 games, but even through the simple process of playing the our planned deck against a decent Extended shell Cody was able to make some changes to the deck to tighten the screws.

Here’s our new list:

6 Island

3 Mountain

2 Swamp

4 Crumbling Necropolis

4 Sunken Ruins

3 Graven Carins

4 Cascade Bluffs

—–26 lands

3 Plumeveil

3 Mulldrifter

2 Grave Titan

—–8 Creatures

3 Thoughtseize

3 Earthquake

3 Cruel Ultimatum

4 Mana Leak

4 Cryptic Command

4 Broken Ambitions

1 Consume the Meek

4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor

———-26 Spells

1 Consume the Meek

3 Duress

1 Earthquake

2 Malakir Bloodwitch

1 Mind Control

2 Relic of Progenitus

1 Telemin Performance

2 Memoricide

2 Volcanic Fallout

We only played a few games with this list but it seems far tighter than the one we had been using.  The removal of the Fae engine replaced a lot of sub-par early game drops with some devastating late game bombs, giving the deck a more “classic” control feel.  I personally feel it added a lot of consistency (though testing may prove me wrong) while still maintaining its fair share of combat tricks in Cryptic Command and Plumeveil.  The addition of the all-powerful Mulldrifter seemed too good to pass up as a drawing engine.

Let us know what you think of the new list.  We’ll have another update as soon as we do some more testing.
